As soon as we arrived on July 30, 2018, we met with Samuel, and Lemaire, the leaders of the HACA team in Haiti to discuss our plans for the 2018-19 academic year. We met with the school principals and learned that our students are doing very well. We accepted 6 more students into our scholarship program, which brings our total to 25 students. Each received a backpack filled with supplies. However, we distributed 30 more to other needy students. There are many cases of very smart students who can’t go to school and we ended up turning their parents away due to our lack of funds. We hope to be able to accommodate more of them in the future in our successful scholarship program.
Angeline, Jeff, Blaise, Magdaleine, Zacharie and 24 enthusiastic volunteers took over 4 days to prepared kits containing enough raw Haitian staple food to feed families of at least 5 persons for 2 weeks. We distributed kits to 300 invited families. Then had to prepare 60 more for unexpected families. However, more continued coming well after the distribution and even the following day. This happened despite our precautions to only do the distribution through the churches by strict invitation to the neediest families.
At the December food distribution, we may have to increase the number of kits to over 400 to avoid sending needy families home empty handed. As always, the food distribution was well organized and happened very smoothly. Everybody expressed their great appreciation for our services. They called it Divine work.
As HACA’s reputation continues to grow, more and more people are coming to us asking for scholarship and food. We left Haiti with the feeling that the need is urgent and growing.
We thank you profusely for your help. We are very grateful to you. HACA couldn’t do any of this Divine work without you. We count on your valuable support.
